In the beautiful Northeastern region of India, nestled in the state of Assam, lies an educational institution that has been instrumental in transforming the agricultural landscape of the region since 1969. Welcome to Assam Agriculture University (AAU), a premier institute dedicated to human resource development, research, and extension in agriculture. As we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of AAU this year, let's take a closer look at this prestigious university and its remarkable contributions to the field of agriculture.
In addition to academic and research activities, AAU actively collaborates with national and international institutions, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. These collaborations facilitate knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and joint research initiatives, fostering innovation and growth in the agricultural sector.
A Legacy of Growth and Development
From Humble Beginnings to Academic Excellence
The roots of Assam Agriculture University trace back to 1913 when an agricultural resource station was established in Karimganj, Barak Valley, followed by another in Titabar in 1923, in the Brahmaputra Valley. After India gained independence, the Assam Agricultural College in Jorhat and the Assam Veterinary College in Nagaon were established in 1948. Eventually, these two colleges merged to form Assam Agriculture University on April 1, 1969. Today, the university boasts nine constituent colleges, six regional agricultural resource stations, five commodity resource stations, and 23 Krishivigyan Kendras spread across the state.

By leveraging innovative technology, market reforms, and liberalization, we strive to make AAU recognized as one of the outstanding universities in the country and establish a global presence.
Academic and Administrative Framework
Nurturing Excellence through Collaboration
AAU operates under the guidance of two key bodies: the Academic Council and the Board of Management. The Academic Council approves and discusses all academic matters, while the Board of Management oversees administrative decisions. As a state university, AAU receives major funding from the state government, as well as central agencies like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Department of Biotechnology, and the Department of Agriculture Cooperation. Additional sources of funding are mobilized in accordance with the AAU Act of 1968.
